GLP-1
Glucagon-Like Peptide 1
Research Use Only · Not for Human Consumption
Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is an endogenous incretin hormone encoded by the proglucagon gene. It is secreted by L-cells in the distal small intestine and colon in response to nutrient ingestion. GLP-1 stimulates insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells in a glucose-dependent manner, suppresses glucagon from alpha cells, slows gastric emptying, and acts on the CNS to reduce appetite. Native GLP-1 has a plasma half-life of approximately 2 minutes due to rapid degradation by DPP-IV.
