Bioavailability
Peptide Bioavailability
Research Use Only · Not for Human Consumption
Bioavailability is the proportion of a drug or compound that reaches the systemic circulation after administration, expressed as a percentage of the administered dose. For peptides administered intravenously, bioavailability is 100% by definition. For subcutaneous, intramuscular, or nasal routes, bioavailability is reduced by first-pass metabolism, local degradation, and absorption barriers. Oral bioavailability of most peptides approaches zero due to gastrointestinal proteolysis, making subcutaneous injection the standard route in peptide research.
